General Information
The Destin School of the Arts’ program year runs from September through May. The summer session is June through August, during which arts camps, theatre camps, and special series classes will be offered. Our private lesson schedule runs year-round. Weekly lessons are given in 30 or 60 minute sessions depending on the student’s age and skill level. Our Director and Production Team are committed to providing a unique outlet for students to express themselves artistically while encouraging them to grow as individuals and artists. DSOTA will provide a safe, enthusiastic, and positive environment for all students.

Office hours during a regular semester are Monday through Thursday from 9-4pm, or by appointment. Summer hours vary; by appointment only.

Student and Family Responsibilities
Students are expected to arrive at their lesson/class on time and with all the needed materials. Students who arrive late or without their necessary materials for their session may be asked to forego their lesson for that day.   A parent, or an adult responsible party, is required to remain in the building during a private lesson for any student under the age of 18.This is in adherence to the Destin Methodist Church’s Safe Sanctuaries Policy. Students who are unaccompanied will not be permitted to stay for their lesson and no refund will be given for their lesson time.

Practice is imperative to progress. Daily practice is strongly encouraged. The most important time to practice is immediately after lessons. This time is crucial for retention of what was just learned. It is also recommended for younger students that parents monitor at least part of their practice time. If a student or parent is unclear about an assignment, please ask for clarification.

DSOTA’s lesson studios can be reserved for practice time as they are available, at no additional cost. Please contact DSOTA Director prior to arrival to ensure a practice room is available!

If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child, please let your child’s instructor or the DSOTA Director know so we can be sensitive to the needs of your child. A quick text on the way to a lesson can make the difference between a great lesson and a difficult one. Ex. - Did Sue just find out that she didn't make the team? Give us a heads up! Was Jack taken to the emergency room over the weekend? Let us know!

It is the firm belief of Destin School of the Arts that the arts are for everyone. If your family would like information about a scholarship, please do not hesitate to speak to the DSOTA Director.

For Private lessons, each student needs a spiral notebook or assignment book, so that weekly assignments may be written down with practice suggestions/goals.

Dress Code
School appropriate clothing, street/play clothes are acceptable attire. Inappropriate attire may be grounds for cancellation of lesson or removal from classroom.

When students enroll in private lessons, they reserve their place for the entire academic year, including summer and school breaks. DSOTA places a high value on commitment and entrusts its families to support that decision. Should you decide to take a break, please notify the DSOTA director within 30 days of desired date. Please note, if you take a break, you may lose you seat with your instructor.
